A Spring Day in NYC

Today was a beautiful spring day in NY. I never thought it would warm up, but today people were walking around carrying their jackets. The sun was shining and the sky was blue.

I managed to set aside a bit of time to see a quilt exhibit celebrating the 100th birthday of Grand Central Station. The City Quilter designed special fabric to be used for the challenge and it is hanging at the New York Transit Museum Gallery Annex at Grand Central Station. It's there until July 6th, if you're passing through.

Grand Prize winner. Amy Krasnansky

Pamelia Paddock

Lisa Jenni

Laura Laslett

Charlotte Noll, who I met during a workshop in Coral Springs, Florida.

Nancy Gary

Margaret Caldwell

I made a pit stop at The City Quilter. It's a wonderful quilt shop and it is truly amazing that it has survived and thrived with what must be crazy rents. To celebrate the Grand Central Quilts, I picked up 1 yard of one of the fabrics that could be used for the challenge. It is exclusive to The City Quilter.

I want to share that fabric with one of my readers that resides in the United States. Leave me a comment, making sure that there is a way for me to email you. I'll pick the winner on Friday at noon EST, so make sure you come back to see if you are the winner.

  1. What fun to see these quilts! I read about the project some time ago and thought it was pretty intriguing. Would love to win the fabric. Thanks for the opportunity. I'm pretty sure you can click thru on my photo to e-mail, but just in case I'll put an address here- quiltlegacy@juno.com

  2. Grand Central Station was a special place in my childhood. During World War II my parents did not have a car so the only way to see my grandparents in upstate Poughkeepsie was by train or in summer by the Hudson River Day Line. I remember how crowded the trains were and how we always gave up our seats to the GIs.

Grand Central Station was pretty awesome for a 6 year old...me. The fabric you have is a reality view of my
    personal history.

  10. Lovely quilts. My daughter works across the street from Grand Central and didn't know about the exhibit. I know she'll take a look. Thanks for letting us know about it.

  14. When I was still working in the city, I spent many lunch hours in Grand Central Station - in the Oyster Bar, one of the Food Court Eateries, or just picking up something delicious in the Grand Central Market. And for dessert some Junior cheese cake! I also loved the holiday fair each December, always found some very unique gifts. Hope to get to see the exhibit later in May or June.

  18. Hi Cheryl
Thanks for posting a picture of my Escalator to the Stars quilt!
I was very excited and honored to be chosen for the exhibit.
We went to NYC for the Opening Event and it was so much fun!
I got to meet and talk with many of the very talented quilters and everyone was so nice.

I had never been to NYC and my husband gave me the first class trip for Valentine's Day present. It was cold (for a Florida resident) but we had the most wonderful time visiting all the amazing museums and eating all different kinds of food. It's a great city!

I really enjoyed your lecture and workshop when you visited the Coral Springs Quilters. I'm really excited about working on my tile design but I have some challenges I have to finish first :-)

Whenever I see Mexican tiles I think of you.
